In a series of outbursts on twitter, the actress asks questions of the Federal Government, and expresses her displeasure about the protracted strike action, which has kept almost all the public Universities closed.

TORONTO – Lionsgate has promoted Akin Ceylan to COO of its home entertainment group.
Ceylan will oversee operations for the home entertainment group, which has been driven by DVD and digital releases of The Hunger Games and Twilight movie franchises.The former MGM exec, who joined the mini-studio in 2005, was most recently chief supply chain officer and executive vp of operations for Lionsgate's $1 billion-plus revenue division.

After making the rounds in Europe and Asia, Sony announced today the U.S. availability of its Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 smartphones, and the SmartWatch 2. But a word of caution: If you’re eyeing one of these phones, it’s going to cost you.
Sony Xperia Z Ultra
Introduced earlier this summer at the Mobile Asia Expo, the Xperia Z Ultra is the company’s latest Android phablet, and features a 6.4-inch HD touchscreen and handwriting-recognition software, so you can take notes using a stylus (not included). It’s also waterproof in up to five feet of water for up to 30 minutes, and has a quad-core processor from Qualcomm.
But, without the backing of a U.S. carrier, the 3G version of the Xperia Z Ultra costs $650, and the LTE version goes for $680. Both will work with AT&T or T-Mobile SIM cards.
The Xperia Z1’s hallmark feature is its 20.7-megapixel camera. It’s also waterproof and has a quad-core processor, but has a smaller (compared to the Xperia Z Ultra, that is) five-inch HD touchscreen.

Sex show owner arrested after Rihanna’s Thai visit

BANGKOK (AFP) – Thai authorities said Monday they had arrested the owner of a sex show visited by pop icon Rihanna — the latest crackdown inadvertently triggered by the singer’s tweets.
The bar owner on the island of Phuket has been charged in connection with the lewd performance, local district chief Veera Kerdsirimongkol told AFP, following an operation involving undercover officials.
“It was the result of the visit by Rihanna. The authorities will be more strict towards inappropriate shows or wildlife attractions,” he said.

MANCHESTER (AFP) – Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson spoke of his pride after unveiling a street named in his honour near the English champions’ Old Trafford ground on Monday.
What was Waters Reach will now be known as Sir Alex Ferguson Way.
During the Scot’s 26 years in charge, United won 13 Premier League titles, including last season’s top-flight crown and two European Champions League trophies among a slew of silverware.
Ferguson, the most successful manager in British football history, retired at the end of last season.
Having revealed the new road sign, Ferguson said Monday: “It encapsulates probably the last 26 years – coming to the great club, the history of it.

A final year student of Lagos State Polytechnic, Ibrahim Oluwaseun, 26, has been killed by suspected cult members at his parents’ home in Somolu area of Lagos. The deceased, a student of Business Administration, was said to have been preparing to defend his final year project this week when he was killed on Friday night.
Our correspondent also gathered that the deceased was sitting with his mother outside their home on New Balogun street, when he was shot around 9pm.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said the gunmen were about seven.
He said, “They were seven in number; they came to the area fully armed. All those guys were strangers to us but have been coming to the area for some time now. Nobody knew exactly what they were up to.
“That night, they confronted the boys in the area with guns and immediately people saw them, they ran for their lives.
“They shot at Oluwaseun who was with his mum outside their house. It wasn’t as if Oluwaseun was involved in any fight. He fell into the gutter immediately he was shot, just as everybody tried running for cover.”
PunchNg gathered that in the ensuing confusion, neither of Oluwaseun’s neighbours nor relatives, witnessed his fall into the gutter. It wasn’t until after the confusion had subsided that residents allegedly observed that Oluwaseun was nowhere to be found.
Another source told us that the Divisional Police Officer, Somolu Station, responding to a distress call on the shooting, drafted some patrol teams to the area.
He said, “Two patrol vehicles were sent to the area but even while the police patrolled the streets, no one noticed that Oluwaseun was in the gutter. Perhaps he might have survived the shooting if he had been discovered on time.”
Oluwaseun was said to have been discovered, few minutes after the shooting; by then, he was already dead. His corpse was said to have been recovered from the gutter by the police and taken to the Gbagada General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
When our correspondent visited the scene a day after the incident, there was an uneasy calm on the street; shops were under lock and key.
While a candlelight procession was held in the deceased’s honour on Saturday, there were fears among residents of more attacks. At the Oluwaseuns’ residence, visitors poured in to condole with the deceased’s family and pay tribute to his memory. His distraught mother was said to be unavailable for comments.
However, a close friend of the family, Alhaja Modupeola Kazeem, described Oluwaseun as gentle and an easygoing young man.
Kazeem said, “I was shocked on hearing the news because I am like a second mother to him. I was one of the people who brought him up; he was a cheerful person who never made trouble. We were all surprised how those guys just came and shot at him without any provocation. Ibrahim was just a victim; he was never part of any bad group.”
She added that Oluwaseun had been buried on Saturday in accordance with Muslim rites.
The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Damasus Ozoani, confirmed the incident to our reporter on the telephone. He said, “There was indeed an incident on Friday night in which some suspected cultists shot one Oluwaseun in Somolu. Police immediately swung into action. They saw him lying down and he was rushed to the hospital where he died. We are investigating the case to ensure we bring the culprits to book.”
Another air crash averted; 89 escape death

ANOTHER plane crash was, yesterday, averted in Kaduna as IRS Airline plane with 89 passengers on board was assisted to land in Kaduna after it developed mechanical problems. The aircraft was said to have had hydraulic problem and on landing at the airport had to discharge its passengers on the runway instead of taxiing to the parking lot.
Speaking on the incident, Managing Director of IRS, Mr. Yemi Dada said, the F100 plane with registration 5N-HIR, left Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos for Kaduna with 89 passengers on board and “on final approach to Kaduna today (yesterday), our cockpit crew got a low hydraulic in System One warning and decided to take precautionary measures to ask for ground confirmation that all gears were down and locked. The aircraft landed normally after the control tower had confirmed that the gears were all down normally. The crew proceeded to land but followed procedure to disembark on the runway and not taxi in accordance with the procedure.

9ice Gains Admission To Study Law

One time A-list artiste in Nigeria, Abolore Adigun well known as 9ice, has gained admission into the university to study law. The talented singer, who has been battling with a nose-diving music career, disclosed this to a national daily newspaper, Tribune in an interview.
9ice told the paper that he is presently a student of Capella University, Minnesota, USA, studying Public Safety and Common Law. He however stated that he is running the school's online programme.
According to him, "I am already in school studying Public Safety and Common Law at Capella University. It is an online programme. I can't think of any other course except Law."
The singer reportedly left the Lagos State University (LASU) in 2006, where he was then studying Law. It was at that time he gained fame with hit his hit song, 'Ganja' and later with 'Gongo Aso'.

Ailing actor, Pa Kasumu
Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola has intervened to save ailing actor, Pa Kasumu who is suffering a heart and kidney complication.
The news was confirmed by Pa Kasumu’s son, Tunde Odumosu who told NET over the telephone that the governor has offered an intervention.
‘Governor Fashola is a very proactive governor. Just when we were still trying to send letters out and raise funds from different sources, he intervened and has asked that my father be taken for a new test. We are really grateful to the God, the Governor and to Nigerians’, Odumosu said.
Odumosu says it is unclear how much involved the governor wants to get, but the family is hopeful that he will go all the way. ‘Although he (Governor Fashola) hasn’t really declared a figure, we are hopeful that since God has touched him to ask my father to undergo a test, he will fully intervene.’

The leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, NDPVF, Mr. Muhajid Asari-Dokubo has joined the swelling rank of private university proprietors with his establishment of a university in the neighbouring Republic of Benin, PREMIUM TIMES reported on Friday.
Asari-Dokubo, who already owns a soccer academy in the West African country and another one in Abuja, Nigeria, said the university, which will be known as King Amachree African University, KAAU, had already been accredited to commence degree programmes beginning September 2014.

Adam would add much needed skill on the wing to the current England squad with Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain missing injured and he can also play centrally.
